Representative Matters

  • Represented a major European company in its acquisition of a multi-million-dollar California corporation.
  • Handled the acquisition and assemblage of properties from 36 separate landowners for the development and construction of an 800+ acre premier golf course community designed by a golfing legend.
  • Prepared estate plans and gift trusts for a family to utilize current, historically high gift tax exemption amounts.
  • Structured a residence trust to keep and manage a home with special meaning for future generations.
  • Represented eleven family members from two family lines, spanning generations two, three, and four, who are heirs to a family business with annual revenue of over $3 billion.
  • Advised a family office for estate planning and estate administration with closely held business interests.
  • Counseled a surviving spouse through a complex estate administration, including liquidating business assets and funding trusts to optimize tax savings for future generations.
  • Successfully defended a Florida estate against a domicile challenge by the Illinois Attorney General.
  • Briefed an ultimately successful motion that led to the dismissal of the investment company client as a party defendant in a highly publicized case brought by the Illinois Attorney General.
  • Served as risk management counsel to an international financial services company headquartered in Chicago, fending off multiple threats of litigation during the estate and trust administration process and completing the process with no lawsuits filed against the client.
  • Represented a client who was a respondent in a guardianship proceeding, successfully avoiding guardianship of the client’s estate because of a previously established and fully funded living trust over which the court had no jurisdiction.
  • Advised a large donor in a tax-benefit analysis between a conservation easement, gift of a life estate, or a charitable trust for a uniquely situated real property adjacent to a national park.
