Madeleine Minton

Madeleine’s practice focuses on three essential and complimentary components of private client practice: estate planning, administration, and litigation.

Madeleine counsels individuals, family groups, and owners of privately held businesses in their estate, tax, and business succession planning and philanthropic endeavors. When approaching a new estate plan, Madeleine first takes the time to understand a client’s lifestyle and legacy goals. Madeleine then employs a variety of foundational and advanced estate planning techniques in order to craft savvy estate planning solutions that protect and transfer wealth to future generations in a tax efficient manner.  While Madeleine has significant experience advising high-net-worth individuals and owners of closely held businesses,  Madeleine also relishes opportunities to educate young adults about the importance of foundational estate planning and assist clients navigating periods of personal transition such as the death of a loved one, sale of business, disability of a family member, marriage, and divorce.

Madeleine guides beneficiaries and fiduciaries through all stages of routine and contested guardianship, probate, and trust administrations with compassion and efficiency. Madeleine routinely advises fiduciaries in the proper execution of their fiduciary duties, representing clients in court and assisting fiduciaries with the administration of decedent estates, preparation and filing of accountings and estate and gift tax returns, and communications with beneficiaries.  When necessary, Madeleine uses a variety of strategies including trust decanting, merger, and nonjudicial settlement agreements to efficiently help clients adapt stale documents or resolve controversy. When conflict is unavoidable, Madeleine’s experience in the planning and administration arenas make her a zealous advocate for clients involved in contested administrations and litigation (including matters related to will contents, claims regarding breach of fiduciary duties, claims related to a decedent’s obligations under marital settlement agreements, defense of fiduciaries, and closely held business disputes).

Whether assisting clients with estate planning, administration or litigation matters, clients appreciate Madeleine’s ability to distill complicated legal concepts and her commitment to making sure clients feel supported in their decisions.

Madeleine received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Tulane University and her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2015. In law school, Madeleine was a Dean’s List student, recipient of the Dean’s Public Interest Award for her commitment to community service, and CALI award recipient for top grade in Constitutional Law and School Law. Prior to law school, Madeleine worked with children with autism spectrum disorders in New Orleans, an experience that translates in her special-needs planning practice. Outside of the office, Madeleine is involved in a number of local and national charitable organizations and enjoys staying active, painting, and spending time with her beloved rescue dog, Atticus.
